ASCENT 142 COMPLETES POST FOR BBC TWO'S MAJOR NEW DRAMA BLOOD AND OIL.

Ascent 142 have completed the picture and audio post on drama 'Blood and Oil', created by award winning writer Guy Hibbert and directed by David Attwood for Tiger Aspect.

The powerful drama stars Naomie Harris and Jodhi May who play two British women from very different worlds. Brought together by tragedy, they embark on an intense and frightening journey into a beautiful but highly dangerous region of Nigeria on the brink of civil breakdown.

Shot on 3perf 35mm film, the project was graded by Trevor Brown at 142 using Da Vinci 2K Plus with defocus and scanned on Spirit Datacine with SCREAM grain management. The drama maintains its feature film production values throughout and presented an interesting challenge of matching tape based and 16mm footage into the body of the piece.   Brown says "Working to a brief to 'keep it real' we established a subtle separation between scenes shot in Africa and London, the results achieved by shooting on 3perf35mm are stunning and wouldn't look out of place in a cinema release"

The audio team (Chris Roberts, Wayne Brooks, Alan Sallabank) were invited to pre production planning sessions, which enabled them to establish a communication path with the location sound recording to agree priorities, and provided them with advance notice of onset issues to be corrected in post-production.  The two stars attended the Wardour Street facility to complete ADR sessions which were recorded at the same time as the pre-mix.   This advance planning saved several days in the audio suite despite sickness hitting the team who implemented digidelivery and skype into their workflow to allow Chris Roberts to offer expertise from his sickbed !
